Scribes Hill Publishing Contests - Ongoing contests offer opportunities for short stories and poetry. Gardenia Press First Novel Competition - Annual contest requires original, unpublished novels (45,000 to 175,000 words) by first time novelists. Potpourri Magazine - Potpourri invites submissions to the 2003 contest for original poetry on the theme, "Our Multi-cultural Diversity and/or Our National Heritage." International STC Technical Communications Competition - The Society for Technical Communication sponsors annual competitions to recognise achievements in the technical communications field. Boston Review Annual Short Story and Poetry Contests - Contests for original, unpublished short stories (up to 4,000 words) and poems (no more than 10 pages) in any genre. The New Writer Magazine Annual Prose and Poetry Prizes - Offers prize money totalling 2,500 pounds for essays (maximum 2,000 words), short stories (maximum 4,000 words), serials or novellas (up to 20,000 words), and poetry (maximum 100 lines). Closes November 30. Modest entry fees. Glimmer Train Awards for Fiction and Poetry - Glimmer Train Press offers a number of awards for short fiction and poetry each year. The prize money for short stories less than 2,000 words, for example, totals $2,000. A reading fee of $10 is required. The Press is also open for submissions where no upfront fees are charged. Arizona Authors Association Awards - AAA requires entries for unpublished poetry, short stories, essays/articles, and novels. Cash prizes of $100 in each category, plus publication, are offered. Closes March 1. Entry fees: $12 and $5, respectively. The Florida Review Editor's Awards - The Florida Review annually awards $1,000 per genre (poetry, fiction, and memoir) for best submitted. Tickled by Thunder fiction magazine - Helping writers get published since 1990, the magazine offers quarterly article and poetry contests (closing February 15, et seq) and an annual fiction contest (closing February 15). Articles must be about writing, and a 2,000 word limit applies to both articles and fiction. A $10 subscription to the quarterly magazine offers at least one free entry to all contests.
